How Do You Use RockTape for Back Pain?

RockTape kinesiology tape can reduce pain and inflammation, which is one reason why athletes use it. However, anyone can use RockTape to reduce pain in their lower back resulting from exercise, strains, and poor sleeping habits. This is one reason why we recommend RockTape alongside chiropractic care at Clayton Chiropractic.

How To Use RockTape

Cut two pieces of tape that will reach from your beltline to your midback, and the third length of RockTape that is the same length as the width from your hip to hip in back. Round the ends of the tape to prevent it from catching on clothing.

When applying RockTape, you want your skin to be taut. To achieve this on your lower back, you should lean forward to tighten your skin. Start by applying the first piece of tape vertically on either side of your spine. Remove the paper and secure the bottom of the tape just above your pants. Press the tape to your skin with one hand while pulling the backing off with the other until the RockTape is fully applied. Rub the tape to ensure it is secure. Repeat the process with the second strip.

Apply the final piece of RockTape horizontally at the same height as the pain in your back. Tear the backing in the center and press the center between the two vertical pieces of tape. Pull the backing off with one hand while gently pulling the tape outward with the other to apply the tape to each side of your spine. Rubbing activates the adhesive and helps to keep the RockTape in place.

Applying RockTape to your own back can be tricky. Having another set of hands makes the process much easier. If you find that the tape doesn't stay in place, you can swap the horizontal tape with a wider piece.
